About The Arabian Saddle Company
A Concept Becomes a Reality
In 1990 an idea germinated in the offices of Lovatt & Ricketts Saddles® in Walsall England, a novel idea; a range of saddles designed specifically for the different activities enjoyed by the
Arabian horse owner, over many years we had built saddles for all breeds of horses but not devoted a whole range for one particular type of horse. During this particular period Stephen Lovatt the owner of the company had been spending the weekend with his very dear friend the well-known and highly acclaimed Equestrian author Elwyn Hartley-Edwards and they paid a visit to a mutual acquaintance who owned a local Arabian farm, the conversation evolved regarding the difficulty of finding a good fitting saddle that was designed to accommodate the particular characteristics of the Arabian horse.
Our first undertakings were to produce a saddle tree for each discipline taking into account the configuration of the Arabian’s back and then make proto-types on these trees for testing by Arabian owners. Our first foray into this was to concentrate on our Endurance saddle, the simple logic being that if you can make a horse and rider comfortable after hours of riding and in some cases 100 miles in a day; you have a sound platform for a range of saddles.
Many years have been spent, firstly defining the requirements of this range of saddles, with the assistance of Arabian horse owners worldwide that have advised and tested prototype models until we were absolutely certain that we had produced a
saddle, which included all of the features that were required.
For over 20 years we have been speaking to and visiting Arabian owners and breeders, professional and amateurs alike, in Europe, Scandinavia, The Middle East, U.S.A., Canada, Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Korea. We now have many thousands of riders on every continent using our saddles.
All of the saddles illustrated on this site are produced by our sister company Lovatt & Ricketts Saddles® in the town of Walsall, England. The town of Walsall has been the center of English Saddle Making for several hundred years, and it is this wealth of experience that we are able to produce a work of art in leather that will give many years of pleasure and enjoyment to the owner. Each and every
one of our saddles are hand made by an individual craftsman; not mass produced on a production line. We pride ourselves in using only traditional natural materials.
Our saddle trees are built by hand using laminated beech wood, and then reinforced with steel for strength and durability. All of our leather is of a premium grade English or European hide, tanned and curried as it has been for generations, then finally hand finished to achieve the look and feel that is synonymous with quality the world over. As the proud owner of a Lovatt& Ricketts Saddle® you will have bought an investment that will turn into a treasured heirloom.
