The Berkeley Saddle


The latest addition to the L & R Saddles range is our Berkeley High Performance dressage saddle. This model incorporates all of the refinements expected in a state of the art dressage saddle. Our Berkeley tree has a unique shaped pommel and swept back points to give wither clearance and complete freedom of shoulder movement. We have also incorporated our L & R® patented 3 position adjustable stirrup bar to give the rider the exact leg position for the perfect seat. This models tree has a sculptured waist to give extreme close contact which allows the riders thigh bone to “fall away“ effortlessly from the pelvis. The close contact panels are wool stuffed and are completely malleable allowing them to mould to contours of the horses back.

Our unique girthing system enables the forward girth strap to be moved from the point position to  behind the point, this coupled with the rear billet attached to a balancing ring will give the correct line up of the girth for superb stability.

The Berkeley is crafted in the finest English leathers and is available in X-grip Water buffalo or smooth Bull hide both are manufactured to our exacting standards by Clayton of Chesterfield. These leathers need no “breaking in” period they will give a wonderful close contact feel to the rider.

The Ellipse Saddle

The Ellipse saddle is designed for the broad shouldered flatter backed breeds such as the Arabian, Morgan and Cob types. It has a hooped tree being more open in the pommel area, a flatter profile in the panels to accommodate the broader backed horse.

The Showring Saddle

The only saddle on the market that is specifically designed for Show Hack, but can also be used in dressage for riders who require a medium deep seat and a smaller flap. It comes with regular short billets, but is available to order with long billets for use with dressage.

The Elan Saddle

A close contact Hunt saddle that will cover all your showing and jumping needs. The 2002 Elan saddle has a new redesigned tree. It comes with knee pads and knee blocks or can be ordered with plain flaps, with or without knee blocks. The saddle can also be made using water buffalo leather or French calf skin.

The Rubicon Saddle

We are pleased to introduce for 2007 our new addition for the serious endurance rider, the Rubicon. With a new innovative saddle tree featuring a more open pommel and swept back tree points, it gives a whole new freedom to the movement of the horse, eliminating restrictions in the shoulder area. The Rubicon also features our new L & R® patented adjustable stirrup bar that gives you a choice of three adjustments, enabling the rider to achieve a perfect leg position. This model features our super soft wool lined serge panels that are stuffed with 100% pure English lambs wool for the ultimate in comfort for your horses back.

Tech specs
The Rubicon is available in our X-grip Water buffalo with contrasting water buffalo nubuck seat and pads or super soft bull hide with French calf seat and knee pads. Each saddle is finished to the highest standards with a host of features for the discerning rider. Premium grade British stainless steel ‘D’ rings for attaching a breastplate, crupper and personal equipment as needed. 6 short as standard or 4 long billets to custom order give a choice of girthing options.

The Sierra Saddle

The Sierra™ is built on a Western style tree but constructed as a traditional English saddle. Crafted in our very succesful water buffalo leather which gives extreme comfort and zero breaking in time for the rider.

The Solstice Endurance Saddle

Endurance riding is one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in the world, and this saddle has everything that is required in a truly great endurance saddle. The Louisville Saddle

The ultimate in cut back saddles, with built in comfort for the rider that makes "bump pads" a thing of the past, featuring state of the art panels that give the most comfort to the horse or any saddle seat saddle on the market today. The Louisville is for the rider who prefers a flat seat. The Louisville is available in black to order.

The Scottsdale Saddle

For the rider whose preference is a deep seat, this is the answer. It features all the same refinements as the Louisville but gives a little more security that a slightly deeper seat affords the rider. Five position stainless steel bars are a standard feature of both our cut back saddles. The Scottsdale is available in black to order.
